Definition:  Photovoltaics is the direct conversion of light into electricity at the atomic level. Some materials exhibit a property known as the photoelectric effect that causes them to absorb photons of light and release electrons. When these free electrons are captured, an electric current results that can be used as electricity.

Solar PV is what many people think of when they talk about solar energy.

How it works:

1.  A series of solar panels are installed on the roof of your home or a ground mount.

2.  These solar panels gather the suns energy and are converted into electricity.

3.  This electricity is then use to power your home.

4.  If you produce more electricity than you consume, then your electric meter will actually spin backwards. You are now "selling" power back to the utility company.

5.  In the winter months, where the daylight hours are shorter and the sun is not as intense, this credit can be used.

6.  When properly calculated and installed, you can eliminate 100% of your annual electric bill.
